Well, two years later still under warrenty! I brought it into the dealership. They replaced the pump in October and it worked… but sometime in November it stopped working. So, last week brought it in. They said the fuse was blown, so they replaced the 10 with a 15 watt fuse and again I drove off with it working. Two days later, it stopped working again! What else could it be? If anyone knows or had a similar problem, please advise! Taking it in again this Thursday to the dealership.
The dealer made a serious mistake in replacing a 10 ampere fuse with a 15 ampere fuse. The wiring to the windshield washer pump is designed to carry 10 amperes.
The windshield washer pump, I am certain, draws much less than 10 amperes. When the dealer overfused the circuit, he was risking overheating these wires. The problem could be an intermittent short circuit someplace in the wiring or a pump motor that is defective and draws too much current.
One other possibility is that there is another accessory on this circuit that is defective and is pulling too much power. Explain that the fuse blew again. Since it takes motor thats washer motor activation to blow the fuse I am going with a motor puling too many amps.
Why not have them see how many amps the motor pulls? Wiring faults are possible but I would like to see how many amps this motor pulls. The reason the fuse blew must be determined and repaired. Then the correct fuse should be inserted. There is an overload somewhere on the circuit alright and the shop needs to find the trouble and place the correct size fuse back in.
The trouble could be with the pump or wiring to it but the fuse most likely supplies other circuits also so the trouble may be elsewhere.98 saturn sl2 engine diagram diagram base website engine
If the fuse just blows when turning on the washer then the trouble is with that circuit. I suspect though that the trouble may be with some other circuit tied to the fuse but I could be wrong about that. I will ask them to check the motor to see how many amps are being pulled and to definitely put the 10 amp fuse back in!
And, yes, they have to correctly diagnose the problem and not just slap a band-aid on it with a higher amp that can lead to the wire being overheated. I said they have to a replace the fuse back to a 10amp, and b tell me why the fuse blew - whether the pump is drawing too many amps or if there is a short in the wire.Years of production: Pull off the cover to access the fuse block. You can remove fuses with a fuse extractor which is mounted to the fuse block access door.
You may have spare fuses located behind the fuse block access door. These can be used to replace a bad fuse. However, make sure it is of the correct amperage.

I replaced the washer pump located behind the fluid reservoir just assuming that was it. Of course like usual my assumptions are never right. The new pump still didn't work. So I put the old pump back in and ran a jumper from the battery and proceeded to spray washer fluid all over myself.
Needless to say now that I narrowed the issue down to not getting power to the pump I followed the two wires White,Red-Pink back to my firewall where they seem to connect into the back of the fuse box located up under the driver side cab. I looked at my haynes manual and none of the fuses seem to run this pump or at least the pump is not listed. I checked all the fuses that are currently installed and all of them are good. Is there a specific fuse that runs the pump and if so what slot does it go into?
Is there a relay that I need to inspect? Still getting the hang of this electrical stuff. Just to let you guys know in an effort to give as much info as possible when I press on the windshield washer fluid switch on my turn signal lever the wipers respond and begin wiping the windshield so I know that the wiper motor and fuse is good. Could it be in the turn signal cluster inside the steering column or down under near the fuse box? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I tried a new pump and it still didn't work. So I ran a jumper from a battery to the old pump and it sprayed washer fluid all over the place so I know the pump works fine. I just can't figure out where my bad connection is or if there is a fuse that runs the pump?
The only fuse I see on a fuse box diagram is named "wiper" and its located at the bottom right above the turn signal flasher.
Did you check to see if there is a relay somewhere in the circuit, not a fuse but a relay. Usually black square box that plugs in to fuse panel somewhere? When I follow the wires from the pump back to the firewall where it plugs into what I am assuming is the back of the fuse box with numerous other wires there is no damage or relay.
When I get up under the dash on the driver side I find a nest of wires going here and there. I will look again under the dash and look for any relays to inspect. What should I be looking for when inspecting a relay to know if it is bad?Log in.
I confirmed that the actual fuse for the pump is fine. However, I'm not familiar with the fuse for the pump relay.
It's much bigger than any fuse I've seen before, and I'm hesitant to yank it out because it looks like it is locked in there pretty good. Is there a tool I should use for pulling this sucker out, or is it not meant to be pulled off the block? In the diagram, this particular fuse has the numbers 86, 30, 87, and 65 on each corner. Any idea what these numbers mean? Any other troubleshooting tips you can offer before I just buy a new washer pump and try to replace it myself?

Joined Oct 29, I'm pretty sure what you're calling the pump relay fuse is the pump relay. If you have power, it's most likely your pump.
If you don't have power, I'd start with the relay.

You can verify the pump by running the jumper wire from the battery. The relay can be tested too. But, it's a little more indepth. Thanks all!

At this point, I have another set of lamebrain questions since this will be the first time dealing with automobile electronics in my profoundly non-eventful life: For Sooner's test where someone hits the washer switch while I check for power at the connectorI want to use my multimeter instead of the test light. Assuming my multimeter looks like the attached drawing, where should I set the dial?
Also, what value s should I hope for in the reading when the switch is on vs off? I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't even know if I should be testing for voltage, current, or resistance. The black lead always goes into the COM hole. That pretty much sums up the extent of my electrical knowledge Please advise?
Also, if I wanted to do Fiero's test ie, connect a jumper wire from the battery directly to the pumpwouldn't I actually need 2 wires ie, one for the positive and one for the ground to do this test? If your windshield wipers work, then they are both good. One fuse is located in the under-hood fuse block wiper fuse 1425amp. The second fuse is located on the body control module, which is located inside the center console, behind the panel on the right side of it. Joined Nov 3, My windshield washer fluid is not pumping out through the windshield wipers and the dash is not reading low windshield washer fluid. I believe the sensor is out, and it completes the circuit for the pump to work. Can anyone confirm this before I begin to work on it? I checked the fuses they all look good.
The pump and sensor worked when I bought the truck. I had the reservoir replaced 10, miles ago. Also, if I remove the sensor it is it possible to check the continuity with a volt meter? Joined Dec 24, My wifes Trailblazer did the samething and it was a plugged line from the washer bottle to the wiper arm. I just took both ends off and blew in it. Some slimy crap came out and that was the problem. Well all I can say is the washer fluid was full and we could here the pump trying to pump so I knew it had to be a pinched or plugged line.
She came home and said here washer wasn't working and the fluid was full so I just started under the hood. I think your wife's car had a different problem than mine.

There was a blue safety on mine I had to take off first. Then 3 bolts, two on the right side corners, one in the middle. Take them off carefully T I believe. Pull black cover off. Its connected on the lower left corner.

The contacts are supposed to be rounded over. Clean them with carb cleaner and wipe. Then I looked inside and the 'contact rotor' inside was covered in grease.
